back when the nation was in the throes of the financial crisis, september 2008, many people decried that there is no alternative (TINA) to bailing out wall street, the big banks, GE, GM and the big insurance companies, AIG and the rest.
that was bullshit. and plenty of smart people (not incidentally, people who foresaw the crash) proposed rational alternatives, that would not have failed the way the corporate welfare path has failed.
similarly, health care. karl very calmly and succinctly describes most of the factors that brought us to this point, and a path out.
of course this path will not be taken. because it means a severe diminution of profits for the health insurance and pharmaceutical giants. which they will never tolerate, since they own the politicians.
but, at least you can read why our path is bullshit, and how the path not taken would work.
